As you can see from our DJ mixes we’ve always been very keen on supporting new and unheard talent so when we first had the idea to create this new version of the album we thought it would be a good to run a remix competition and invite entries from anyone and everyone, with the winner featured on the release.

We received 265 entries and it proved impossible to pick just one winner, so we decided to pick one each and put the three winning remixes on the album.

We also had a shortlist of 13 other remixes that we loved, so in order that you can find out more about this new batch of talent, here, (in their own words), is some more info about them.

What we liked most about all the remixes on this page is that the producers took our original, stamped their personality on it and made it their own, rather than giving us what they thought we wanted to hear.

The combined efforts of Keith Swet and Vacate have been hard to miss over the past year. From featured releases on Beatport to demolishing floors up and down the coast. They have shared the stage with many of dubstep’s heavyweights and have had their work rinsed by many of the same. Hot Mess was listed as a “Must Hear” and “Feature Artist” in Dubstep on Beatport with several chart toppers. Their remix of Blu Mar Ten’s “Believe Me” has been released on their ‘Natural History: Revision’ album, and incorporates the influence and feel of a decade of drum and bass love, that courses through the veins of much of their work.

Inward Phase aka Dániel Nyári was born in 1991, Hungary, Cegléd. He got a synthesizer at six years old, since then he is possessed of music. He has been interested in drumandbass since 2005, and he begun to compose music in 2008. On November 29th we’ll be releasing a digital-only, augmented version of our 2009 LP ‘Natural History’, adding a brand new set of remixes including fresh talent from the winners of our recent remix competition.

The result is a beautiful inversion of the original, showcasing the near-beatless melancholy the young Russian has become famous for.

‘Above Words’ is completely transformed by San Francisco’s master of quirky folktronica, Badmammal, who rewrites the tune’s Autonomic-via-Detroit stylings into a gorgeous montage of dusty acoustic Americana. The video’s being directed by the immensely talented Ross Casswell and we were surprised to find a cast of thousands, (well, tens), at the location. We saw some of the footage from the camera and it looks great so we’re really looking forward to the final product which should emerge in the next week or so.
Not too sure what to do about youtube, as there’s quite a lot of nudity in the video. ‘Publish and be damned’, is possibly the only way forward.

To keep you entertained until the final vid arrives, we recommend you have a look at Ross’ site to see some some other very nice things he’s made, and also take a peek at some footage we took during the shoot. It may not look like much right now, but just you wait…

Here’s what the producers have emailed me:

We need to get some more people for this Sunday mate, Ideally young interesting looking types, male and female, no acting skills required, possibly a bit of dressing up. Can you rustle up around 4/5 people, maybe 3 guys and any girls that fit the bill. If possible we’d like an asian guy (chinese) and a thinner kind of “geeky” looking guy.

The filming will be in East London, and I’m guessing will probably take a few hours, so if you think you’ve got the right look and you’re up for being immortalised on youtube and everywhere else, email a photo of yourself to chris@blumarten.com and I’ll pass it on to the producers.
